Summer 2014 Concert Series

I like to call myself a seasoned concert veteran. Going to concerts is a pretty big hobby of mine. I’ve seen tons of acts from across the music spectrum: Justin Bieber, Fall Out Boy etc…etc…so I was pretty prepared for some intense moshing going on. I wasn’t however, prepared for the onslaught of madness that occurred.

First of all, Fat Trell and Rick Ross didn’t come out until 4 HOURS after the show was scheduled to start. My tickets said the show was supposed to start at 9pm, but the doors didn’t open until 9pm. I was like “okay cool, I don’t mind waiting.” However,  I did mind waiting for the acts to come out, having to suffer through radio DJs trying to distract us with music and random opening acts. There were seriously about 7 random people performing. Then, they brought out these girls with big butts to just shake their ass for about 20 minutes. I’m not sure who the girls were, but I wasn’t really feeling it. If you want to shake your ass on stage that is totally cool, but I was getting bored of their tricks after 5 minutes.

After the first two hours, the crowd was getting restless. Hell, I’ve waited some time for artists to come out but I was like damn where the hell are they? There were people fighting everywhere. One girl behind me punched another girl in her face for trying to move up front, one girl pushed a guy over to trying to move up front. All petty fights for just nothing. It was getting so annoying.

Finally, Fat Trell came out. With no less than at least 10 of his posse on stage. I’ve seen Fat Trell briefly as an opening act for a VCU homecoming but it took me like 20 minutes to figure out who he actually was haha. His set was pretty good, however, more fights broke out and more and more people kept pushing their way to the front. One big guy did exactly this and everyone got pissed. This one girl pulled his hair back and he went swinging for everyone, including me, grabbing my boob as hard as he could. I was so mad and annoyed because I knew I would have to deal with this for the rest of the night. Thankfully he got kicked out of the crowd.

At the end of Fat Trell’s set and roughly about 30 minutes of MORE waiting, Rick Ross finally came out. His performance was okay, but my opinion is super biased because of all the waiting I did, with no apology. One good thing that happened was my friend and I got pushed up to the very front row and they gave us all cups of Belaire Rose, which is a brand of champagne that Rick Ross promotes. It didn’t taste any different from champagnes and wines I’ve had in the past.

All in all, it was a pretty good show, but nothing to write home about. I was very underwhelmed by the performance, especially because it was running soooo late. Hopefully in the future if I see Rick Ross again, this won’t happen.
